To strengthen our valuable team of dedicated employees in Belgium, Biotalys is looking for a Research Associate in planta assays (100%).
Scope of your job
- As a member of the Characterisation group you will provide technical and practical assistance to support Biotalys’ Lead Characterization efforts
- Organize and conduct plant/pathogen experiments and support various projects within the company, focusing on in planta This includes:
- Whole plant and leaf disc assays
- Performing inoculations and (fungal) disease scoring
- Preparation of nonstandard material for assays
- Work closely with science experts to develop novel in planta assays and identify opportunities for assay improvements. Assay development to improve the throughput and/or accuracy of screening Biotalys’ lead candidates
- Perform assays to evaluate the efficacy of Biotalys biocontrol lead candidates and assess the pathogenicity of plant pathogen isolates in planta
- Support the maintenance of plant growth chambers, including planting and watering plants when required
- Evaluation and reporting of results and data; adapting and organizing experiments as necessary. Store data in a structured manner using specialized data management tools such as Genedata and Directus
What we are looking for
- Bachelor or master’s degree in (micro)biology, biochemistry, agriculture, or a related field
- Basic work experience in a laboratory environment and/or in agriculture R&D
- You take personal responsibility for lab organization; keeping the lab and materials clean and ordering consumables/reagents when needed
- Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team
- Knowledge of agricultural crops and practices, crop diseases, and pests is a plus
- Knowledge of microbiological laboratory aseptic techniques is a plus
- Fluency in English
- Well-organized and accurate
