The role requires familiarity with short range wireless communication (SRWC), such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and experience in wireless communication research and innovation programs, stakeholders’ initiatives and European and international standardization of short range wireless communication.

We are looking for a Standardization Manager, who will be responsible to enhance the company push into a new business area. His/her primary focus will be the development of an ecosystem, including the liaison with the R&D team. Participation in the relevant standardization committees of ITU, GSMA ETSI, CEN/CENELEC, ISO/IEC will be necessary.
The successful candidate will work alongside researchers, engineers and developers, who are involved on different aspects of the ecosystem. Therefore, commitment to collaborative problem-solving, advanced design methods and the creation of quality products are essential attributes.
The company is putting together a new, dynamic, geographically-distributed team. The successful candidate will be given a choice of working either in Leuven (Belgium) or Reading (UK).
Responsibilities:
- Strategy development and planning for the creation and development of an ecosystem in Europe, including liaison with standard developing organization, Europe committee, chip and device vendors, and research institutes.
- Influencing the regulations on SRWC in Europe and global. Recognizing new risks to research and product.
- Understanding of the overall business picture in order to provide strategic advice to R&D and standardization teams. Working with multiple departments, coaching and mentoring other team members to a strong standard to consistently achieve best practices.
- Opportunities recognizing, research resource exploring.
- Technical owner for current and future SRWC techniques and applications.
- Reporting directly to the Director (European Standardization & Industry Development) based in Leuven (Belgium), though with European oversight, including the UK.
Travelling: International travel, mostly within Europe (25% of the time).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Knowledge of wireless communication, such as BT, Wi-Fi, NFC, cellule. Engineering or communication or Computer Science degree or other related University degree. SRWC applications and standardization initiatives.
- Experienced in standard organization operation, or eco-system developing.
- Ability to understand business requirements and translate these into technical requirements.
- Well communication skills, especially intercultural communication.
- Languages: fluent English (spoken and written), French and/or Dutch considered as positive assets.
