Job Responsibilities
The Home Language teacher is responsible for supporting students to achieve the goals of the program.
Schedule
The Home Language teacher will teach classes according to the agreed schedule, three teaching hours on Thursdays between 10:00 and 15:00
Place
The Home Language teacher and the students will meet in person at school, in a space reserved for them.
Students
All the students speak the taught language at home on a regular basis and claim it as an important part of their identities.
Specific
The Home Language teacher is responsible for:
- constructing detailed lessons following ISB practices and approaches, organized into chunks of learning, including all material selection.
- communicating to students and parents the purpose, principles and practicalities of the program, including all learning objectives, assessment criteria and methods, timelines and examples of good performance.
- providing challenging, engaging, differentiated and developmentally appropriate lessons to small groups of students.
- demonstrating a personal enthusiasm for the particular language, literature, culture.
- assessing student work with a view to giving prompt, regular, constructive feedback to students.
- providing students and parents with written progress reports each semester.
- participating in professional development as required.
Qualifications
Home Language teachers will have:
- formal language teaching qualifications.
- preferably, at least two years of experience in this field.
- a commitment to the school’s mission and values: inclusion, challenge, success for everyone, and developing international citizens and independent learners.
- a commitment to learning: the students’ and their own.
- knowledge of the required range of assessment strategies.

Employment Status
Home language teachers can be independent (self-employed workers) or have a temporary contract.
If they are not EU members, they need to have a valid work permit.
Compensation
The Independent Teachers may invoice the school 135€/lesson (+ 6€ transportation fee).
The Teachers employed via Accent with a temporary contract will receive a total gross salary of 98,16€ (85,11€ salary + 13.08€ holiday pay) per home language session.
S/he also receives a lunch fee (8€ gross) and a transportation fee (between 1 and 3€, depending on the place where s/he lives).
The amounts mentioned above include all aspects of the work as detailed in the job description.
Method of Payment
Home Language teachers are paid weekly or upon reception of the invoice (independent) at the end of every semester.
