ENTSO-E is the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity. We coordinate the cross-border system operations, system development and electricity market activities of the 40 electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) which cover 36 countries. The ENTSO-E Secretariat in Brussels provides support on technical, market and policy developments for all European TSOs in their cooperation with each other, in their joint fulfilment of their legal mandates, and in the intensive interactions with EU decision-makers, regulatory agencies, associations representing network users and other stakeholders.

Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Architect Lead to take charge of designing, implementing, and managing our organisation’s data architecture. In this role, you will define how data is stored, consumed, integrated, and managed across various data entities, IT systems, and applications using or processing data in some way.
As the Data Architect Lead, you will play a key role in shaping our data strategy, proposing guidelines, driving improvements, and ensuring high data quality standards. You will work closely with staff across all sections of the ENTSO-E Secretariat, providing advice and support for diverse projects. By analysing and organising data, you will help the business retrieve and utilize critical information efficiently.
This position also involves collaboration with external vendors, where you will review and challenge proposals to ensure alignment with our defined data strategy. Leading a team of 2-4 data consultants, you will inspire and guide them in achieving key objectives.
The Data Architect Lead is a full-time position based in Brussels within the ICT section. Reporting directly to the Architectures Manager, you will join the Architectures team, which focuses on Architectures, Data, and Interoperability.
Your responsibilities
Responsibilities may be subject to change depending on the evolution of priorities and projects. Key tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Lead the data domain and coordinate a team of 2-4 consultants.
- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using both traditional relational databases as well as ‘big data’ technologies.
- Design and implement effective ETL processes, database solutions and models to store and retrieve company data.
- Process confidential data and information according to guidelines.
- Prepare the strategy for technological evolution related to data.
- Perform business/functional analysis and manage vendors to build, develop or improve systems.
- Measure the quality delivered by vendors and suppliers.
- Perform data modelling, relational database management as well as NoSQL.
- Operate on big data sets retrieved from different sources in high availability environment.
- Compare and analyse provided statistical information to identify patterns, relationships and problems.
- Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions.
- Operational support for the existing analytical projects.
Your profile
The Data Architect Lead requires the following skills and abilities:
- University degree in IT engineering or data engineering with minimum 7 years of work experience as Data Architect Lead or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of/and experience with databases (MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL etc.), T-SQL, data integration software (SSIS, Talend, Pentaho or similar), familiarity with visual analytics tools (Tableau, SSRS etc.)
- Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
- Experience with coding in object-oriented/object function scripting languages is expected (Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc).
- Knowledge of GitLab, JIRA, Confluence etc.
- Knowledge of data mining techniques and experience in gathering and analysing system requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with a strategic mindset.
- Proactive, results-oriented and problem-solving attitude with ability to manage risks.
- Experience working in an Agile environment, with strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and in team setting with competing deadlines.
